Kavita Patel

Dr. Kavita Patel worked as the director of policy for the White House under President Obama and as senior adviser to Senator Edward Kennedy before joining the Brookings Institution in Washington, D.C. She is currently a fellow and managing director of the Engelberg Center for Healthcare Reform, where she focuses on delivery system reforms, health care cost, physician payment and health-care workforce productivity.

Patel continues to stay up-to-date on the trends in health care as a practicing physician at Johns Hopkins Medicine and clinical instructor at UCLA. Her research in health-care policy and community approach to mental illness have earned her national recognition.

Her frequent media appearances include CBS, NBC, Voice of America, Science Friday and NPR’s Tell Me More.
