Tony Villamil is founder and principal of the Washington Economics Group (WEG), a Florida-based economic consulting practice. His areas of expertise include the economy of Florida, U.S. economic policy and Latin American and Caribbean economies.
Villamil is on the Board of Directors of the Spanish Broadcasting System (SBS), Mercantil Commercebank, NA, and Pan-American Life Insurance Group (PALIG). He was most recently appointed by the US Secretary of Commerce to serve in the Florida District Export Council. Villamil was U.S. Undersecretary of Commerce for Economic Affairs under President George H. W. Bush.
Villamil served as the founding Dean of the School of Business of St. Thomas University until 2013. He is currently Chairman of the Economic Roundtable of the Beacon Council-Miami-Dade County’s official economic development organization. He is also Senior Fellow and a member of the Research Advisory Council of the James Madison Institute (JMI).
