Gurtina Besla is an Assistant Professor of Astronomy at the Department of Astronomy at The University of Arizona. She is a theoretical astrophysicist who has focused on the evolution of satellite galaxies that orbit the Milky Way. She is an expert in the dynamics of the Milky Way Galaxy, the Andromeda Galaxy and the Local Groups of Galaxies. Dr. Besla is currently developing local programs and arranging mentorships dedicated to supporting students of color who are pursuing degrees in physics and astronomy.
