Anna Maria Chávez is the CEO of Girl Scouts of the USA. She is the first woman of color to hold this position and an expert on women’s leadership, youth development, and public policy. Previously, she served as the Deputy Chief of Staff for Urban Relations and Community Development under former Arizona Governor, Janet Napolitano. In 2016, Anna Maria Chávez was the recipient of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute’s Medallion of Excellence Award. She works in New York, New York.

Tina Trujillo

Adriana Galván

Adriana Galván, is an Associate Professor of Psychology and the Brain Research Institute at UCLA. She is an expert on teenage brain development, behavior and related public policy. Her work is centered on the emotional reactivity, learning,  and decision making process of adolescents. Galván is able to characterize neutral changes in the developing brain using brain imaging technology. She also serves as the Jeffery Wenzel Term Chair in Behavioral Neuroscience. Several organizations have funded her research including the National Science Foundation.

Julio Frenk

Julio Frenk is the president-elect of The University of Miami. He was previously the Dean of the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, and Minister of Health of Mexico, from 2000 to 2006. He has written extensively about universal health coverage and health equity. In 1998, Dr. Frenk joined the World Health Organization (WHO) as executive director in charge of Evidence and Information for Policy. He served as a senior fellow in the global health program of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and as president of the Carso Health Institute in Mexico City. In 2008 Dr. Frenk received the Clinton Global Citizen Award.

Vince Wang

Vince Wang conducts research at the Shimberg Center for Housing Studies at University of Florida in Gainesville. Wang’s research focuses on the geography of inequality and opportunity in distressed neighborhoods, specifically on examining the causes of segregation, poverty dispersal housing programs, and how they collectively affect the prospects of publicly subsidized low-income households. He is currently developing an Opportunity Housing Locator to help families with rental vouchers find affordable housing in opportunity-rich neighborhoods.

Wang has worked on several U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development grant projects, and his work has won awards from the Florida Planning and Zoning Association and the Florida Chapter of the American Planning Association.

Zhan Guo

Zhan Guo is an Associate Professor of Urban Planning and Transportation Policy at NYU’s Wagner Graduate School of Public Service. Guo studies individuals’ travel behavior and explores innovative ways to influence that decision-making process to produce better social outcomes such as reduced congestion and carbon emissions. The (dis)connection between government regulations, market forces, and consumer preferences is the focus of his research. Guo has conducted empirical work on transfer behavior in Boston, metro map design in London, parking in New York, and pedestrian environments in Hong Kong.  His work has been covered by The New York Times, Wall Street Journal, BBC, The Economist, and others.

Guo received a B. Arch from Tianjin University, a MUD from Tsinghua University, China, and a MCP and a Ph.D in Urban Planning from MIT.

Van Tran

Van C. Tran teaches sociology at Columbia University. His primary research focuses on the incorporation of post-1965 immigrants and their children as well as its implications for the future of ethnic and racial inequality in the United States. His other scholarly interests include neighborhoods, urban inequality, and population health, with a focus on the Hispanic/Latino population and New York City neighborhoods.

Some of his recent work adopts a comparative approach to the study of migration in the United States, in Europe, and in China. He received his PhD in Sociology and Social Policy from Harvard in 2011 and completed his postdoctoral training as a Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Health & Society Scholar at the University of Pennsylvania in 2013. At Columbia, he is the faculty organizer of the Race, Ethnicity and Migration Workshop and teaches courses on immigration, urban poverty, and research methods.

Adriana Kugler

Adriana Kugler is a Colombian/American economist and Professor and Vice-Provost for Faculty at the Georgetown University McCourt School of Public Policy. Her research interests include labor markets and policy evaluation in developed and developing countries. Her current research explores the impact of extensions of unemployment insurance on quality of jobs and match-quality of jobs, and long-term effects of training programs for disadvantaged youth on participants and external impacts on other family members.

Professor Kugler served as Chief Economist of the U.S. Department of Labor under the Obama Administration. Her research and policy work have been covered in The Economist magazine, the Washington Post, the Wall Street Journal, Univision, NPR and in the Joint Economic Committee of Congress. She is a Research Associate of the National Bureau of Economic Research and Research Fellow of the Center for Economic Policy Research, Institute for the Study of Labor, Centre for Research and Analysis of Migration and the Center for the Study of Poverty and Inequality at Stanford University. She is also Senior Fellow at the Center for American Progress.

Raj Chetty

Raj Chetty is a professor of economics at Stanford University and is a  2012 MacArthur fellowship recipient. His work on tax policy, unemployment and education has helped to shape government policy.

Chetty’s current research combines empirical evidence and theory, and focuses on equality of opportunity and how to give children from disadvantaged backgrounds better chances of succeeding later in life. He has been named one of the top economists in the world by The New York Times and The Economist. He is the editor of the Journal of Public Economics and has appeared on WBUR’s On Point, NPR’s All Things Considered and Planet Money.
