Phil Taylor, a senior writer for Sports Illustrated (SI), says that “basketball is his favorite sport to both play and cover.” He writes the weekly column The Hot Button for and was previously a sportswriter and columnist at the Miami Herald, the San Jose Mercury News, and The National.

According to his bio on, Taylor received the 1987 Associated Press Sports Editors Award for Feature Writing. He received his bachelor’s degree from Amherst College in Massachusetts and his master’s degree from Stanford University in California.

Pedro Gomez has been an ESPN baseball reporter and commentator for ten years, covering everything from spring training to the controversy surrounding Barry Bond’s steroid use. He serves as a commentator on SportsCenter, Baseball Tonight, and other ESPN studio shows.

Prior to joining ESPN, Gomez was a sports columnist and baseball writer for the Arizona Republic, the Sacramento Bee, the San Jose Mercury News, Miami Herald, San Diego Union, and the Miami News. According to his bio, “Gomez provided personal, passionate reporting for ESPN from MLB’s historic return to Cuba in 2016, giving his own perspective as the son of Cuban refugees and where he was able to take his father’s and brother’s ashes to be left behind in the family’s homeland. He is a member of the Baseball Writers Association of America, has covered more than 25 World Series, 22 All-Star Games and is a voting member for the Baseball Hall of Fame.”
